- Enter the first time block in hours, minutes, and seconds.
- Enter the second time block the same way.
- Choose Add or Subtract.
- Read the result — the tool automatically carries over 60 seconds to a minute and 60 minutes to an hour.
Formula / logic
Total seconds = (hours × 3600) + (minutes × 60) + seconds, then the two totals are added or subtracted and converted back into hours, minutes, and seconds.
Worked example
Adding 2h 45m to 1h 30m: convert to seconds (9900 + 5400 = 15300 seconds), then back to hours/minutes: 4h 15m 0s.
Frequently asked questions
How many seconds are in an hour?
3,600 seconds make one hour (60 seconds × 60 minutes). The calculator converts this for you automatically.
Does the Seconds Calculator handle rollover automatically?
Yes — once seconds pass 60 they roll into minutes, and once minutes pass 60 they roll into hours, so you never have to do the carrying by hand.
Can the result be negative?
Yes, if you subtract a larger value from a smaller one the result is shown as a negative duration.
Is there a limit to how many hours I can enter?
No practical limit — the calculator handles large totals (for example, adding up a full week of hours) without rounding errors.
Is the Seconds Calculator free to use?
Yes — every calculator on this site is free, with no sign-up or download required.
